Mark graduated from the Royal Veterinary College and worked there for the next 9 years developing his specialist interests in equine medicine and specifically in equine cardiology. He moved to the new Nottingham Vet School as one its founding members of staff in 2006, where he has recently been promoted to Professor of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He is a past president of the British Equine Veterinary Association, representing equine vets across the U.K and beyond. He is a specialist in equine internal medicine with a particular interest in equine cardiology; a subject that he studied as part of his PhD. He is also interested in poor performance, critical care and behaviour. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for his 'meritorious contributions to clinical practice' and a principal fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Mark has ridden for his entire life, competing mainly in showjumping, although work commitments and a 9 year old daughter who also competes on ponies mean this is now difficult.
In addition to his clinical interests in equine medicine and cardiac disease he has a particular interest in managing clinical behavioural problems from the needle shy horse to the horse that is difficult to load.
